Sowing Justice
Sowing Justice aims to help create a more sustainable, connected and people-centred food system.
We have partnered with Seaford Wetlands Community Garden to use their 800msq market garden area for our first food sovereignty project.
We are growing a few staple crops (in our first year this includes potatoes, pumpkins and carrots) to share with food-insecure residents in our local area. Collaborative events will combine food distribution with opportunities to connect with others and learn about our local food system and skills for growing.
Other crops will be grown for sale to contribute funds to the project and increase availability of local organic produce in the area.
This project is also our learning ground for agroecological growing techniques, including experimentation in seed saving, reducing water use, no-till soil management and biodiversity plantings.
